Project Description:

The City of South Bay is requesting combination funding for its water an wastewater systems in the amount of 4.5 million dollars.  The City is currently complying with a Florida Department of Environmental Protection Consent Order (wastewater) and in the process of negotiating the same for the water system.  The funding will satisfy renovation and construction, with any and all operational cost (recurring and non-recurring) funded by the City.  The local match (cash and in-kind) would equal approximately 40 percent of the project cost.  The City owns and operates this utility and has recognized that both plants are aged and are in need of upgrade and expansion.

Several regulatory agencies are now demanding major improvements via a contractual understanding (consent order) with the City of South Bay.  Most of the parameters outlined are either directly or indirectly related to unfounded federal and/or state mandates.  There is a tremendous public benefit from the City's initiatives to improve these systems.
