The six statutory teaching hospitals (Jackson Memorial, Mount Sinai Medical Center, Orlando Regional, Shands-Gainesville, Shands-Jax, and Tampa General) in partnership with the Univeristy of Florida, University of South Florida and University of Miami Colleges of Medicine provide the graduate medical education and training of over 1700 medical residents participating in over 85 residency programs.  Through this education endeavor, the teaching hospitals are able to provide access to tcare for indigent persons in their region and tertiary and quartenary care to the entire state.  At the same time, the jiont mission achieves the education and training of Florida's required ehatlh care manpower.
