Project Description:

During a major rainfall event in late September 2000 (9 inches over 8 hours), the stormwater system along Fiske Boulevard (State Road 519) within the City of Rockledge had multiple headwall failures (see photo documentation sent by mail) that led to a system blockage and flooding streets in two subdivisions including structural damage to numerous single family dwellings.

From previous heavy rainfall events, it is apparent that the system is inadequate to move water from this area and another road crossing is needed to relieve system pressure and to protect the integrity of homes and roads.  It will benefit the State road greatly.  The Citry has an adopted Stormwater Master Plan and additional retention areas are planned to the west for treatment of stormwater runoff (see map following by mail).  However, the problem will persist unless another drainage crossing is provided from east to west under Fiske Boulevard.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has recognized this as problematic and has contracted for engineering services to address the problems at the crossing where the headwalls failed (see FDOT letter following by mail).  Construction dollars are needed and the City is willing to provide a match for this multi-jurisdictional problem (also helps to drain areas in unincorporated areas of Brevard County).
