Project Description:

This project comprises the reconfiguration of the primary on-Port roadway network to separate the Port's growing cargo and cruise activities and provide for safer, more efficient vehicular movements.  It also includes construction of a cargo security gate. The project paves the way for the development of the Port tunnel, which will provide a direct connection between the Port and the Interstate, an essential, but missing, link in the Port's intermodal transportation system. The Port tunnel is included in FDOT's work program (FM2511561) and is supported by the Miami Dade Expressway Authority, local and regional business, and the community interests. Because the tunnel is a long-term project, the Port wishes to be proactive in accelerating these on-Port improvements both to alleviate existing conditions and to prepare for movement through the tunnel.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

Creation of approximately 35,000 jobs, from $350 to $460 million in incremental tax revenues annually  based on Portwide activity, trucks will be able to make 30% more trips if they could move accross the Port more efficiently.
