Project Description:

This project, a.k.a The Broward County Shore Protection Project or the Broward County Beach Nourishment Project.  Attachment I is the updated County submittal for the Florida Beach Erosion control Program Long Range Budget Plan, which is an annual ten-year projection of project funding needs and project descriptions. This project will place approximately 3 million cubic yards of sand on about 12 miles of beach. Also included is construction of a spur on the south jetty of Port Everglades and two t-head groins at the north end of John U. Lloyd Beach State Recreation Area.  This funding request reflects increases in estimated overall casts for the project (resulting in an increase in the State's share), and proposes that the State exercise its authority to fund 100% of the non-Federal share of project activities at John U. Lloyd Beach State Recreation Area.  Broward Beached contributes $800 million a year and 26,000 jobs to the tri-county region.  Out-of-State visitors to Broward's beaches generate $600 million in economic activity for the State of Florida.
