Project Description:

The Coalition to Stop Adult Abuse a newly formed group of advocates and human services professionals, urge approval of the Department of Children and Families (DCF) budget issue to fund each district to create Adult Protection Teams.  We recommend an increase to the current appropriation proposal of no less than $100,000 for District 11 based on caseload, size, increasing diversity of need in this community, and parity within the state determined by district needs.

Chapter 415.1102, F.S. provides for establishment of an Adult Protection (APT), ?subject to an appropriation?.  It states that ?the department may develop, maintain, and coordinate the services of or more multidisciplinary adult protection teams in each of the districts of the department.?  The purpose of this team is to ??supplement the protective services activities of the adult protective services program of the department?.  In addition, ?The role of the teams is to support activities of the adult protective services program and provide services deemed by the teams to be necessary and appropriate to abused, neglected, and  exploited disabled adults or elderly persons upon referral.

The multidisciplinary nature of the APT would help ensure that the totality of the abusive situation is considered and treated.  Individual members of this team of experts would be on-call to render expertise on a case-by-case basis as needed.
