Project Description:

The Literacy Center's goal is to provide resources to address the confirmed low literacy rates of Juvenile Offenders in the Metro-Tampa area via human resources intervention, guidance, counseling, and computer technology solutions. A collaborative group of Tampa residents, businesses and organizations (BPR, INROADS, Tampa Bay Reads, and Advantage Training Systems), with guidance and input from the Hillsborough Sheriff's Department  are proposing a Literacy Center encompassing each organization's expertise focused on assisting "targeted" juvenile offenders and other At-Risk young adults.  The Literacy Center is designed to address the clients reading and writing deficiencies, increase their exposure to computer technology aids and tools, coach clients to improve their social skills, and expose members of client's family to the Center's resources.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

The expectation is access to the Center's offerings that will help not only the clients' improve their self-esteem, but deter other family siblings from becoming future juvenile offenders.  Encompasses the Family as a whole.
