Project Description:

Funds 82 joint-use infrastructure projects at 21 military bases and installations in Florida and provides defense grant funds for program administration.  The $10 million requested this uear includes $9 million to establish a matching grant program to enable Florida communities hosting military bases to invest in infrastructure improvements critical to preserving tese bas4es from future BRAC rounds.  A recently completed study identified 19 top priority projects for 2001 of large joint-benefit to affected communities with military installations to be funded under this request. The remaining money is to fund grant programs for Florida's defense-dependent communities.  Programs would be modeled agter those created in S.288.980 ((1), (2) & (3), Florida Statutes, as amended by Ch. 96-348 and Ch. 98-176, Laws of Florida.  Grant program categories include, but not limited to FloridaDefense Planning Grant, Florida Defense Implementation Grant Program, florida Military Installation Reuse Planning and Marketing Grant Program, and the Florida Base Closure and Realignment (BRAC) Grant Program.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

The Florida Defense Alliance (FDA) Grant Programs are an invaluable tool for protecting Florida's estimated $30 billion annual investment in its military/defense industry as well as attracting new defense missions to the State.  The program facilitates refined repsonses to future BRAC rounds and provides strong incentives fo military-community cooperation in addressing mutual problems and initiatives on a least-cost basis.
