Project Description:

This appropriation will allow St. Johns County to replace failing septic tanks and install a central sewer system for Anastasia Island.  The water quality in the Matanzas River has been degrading for several years and these failing septic tanks are a large part of the cause.  Last year, the City of St. Augustine received $350,000 for a similar project in their jurisdiction.  This is part of the continuation of the appropriation approved by the Legislature last year.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

Water quality in the Matanzas River, an "Outstanding Florida Waterway," will be measurably improved.  The goal is to improve the waterway in order to re-open currently closed shellfish harvesting areas.
