Project Description:

Offsite facilities connections to the City Government Center are currently provided by frame relay and other phone connections.  These connections provide slow access to data for offsite personnel and, additionally, are unable to sustain the increasing demands of data, programs, and online applications.  This project will provide more efficient fiber connections to all offsite city facilities with the City Government Center as well as establish Emergency Operations Centers in each sector of the City.  Offsite facilities included in the fiber connection project are:

Northern Tier (north of Copans Road):

?          Police Department Substation - (Emergency Operations Center)

?          Recreation Complex

?          Sabal Pines Park

Central Connection (Copans Road)

?          Government Center Complex - (Emergency Operations Center)

Southern Tier (south of Copans Road)

?          Windmill Park

?          Ted Thomas Activity Center - (Emergency Operations Center)

Service Provided Benefit:

Upon project completion, bandwith at the offsite facilities will increase by almost 400%.  Access to GIS and other graphic information will also be achieved without system degradation.  Emergency Operations Centers will be strategically established to provide an uninterrupted emergency data network and voice communications during Emergency Management conditions such as severe weather conditions, natural disasters and/or civil unrest.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

An increase in the overall access and response time for all offsite facilities.  The ability to connect to GIS information.  Bandwith increase of 400%. And citywide, uninterrupted emergency data and voice communications during Emergency Management conditions.
