Project Description:
The cooperative Red Tide research Program focuses the considerable resources of Mote Marine Laboratory and the State of Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on the problem of harmful algal blooms along the Florida Gulf Coast. Funding for this program not only supports Mote and FMRI scientists but also allows cooperative investigations if red tide which involves 12 other research institutions and agencies resulting in here-to-fore unprecedented advances in understanding the causes and effects of red tides and of techniques for their control and mitigation. The program at Mote will continue to focus the five major areas of research identified by the Florida Harmful Algal Bloom Task Force as areas of critical concern for the State of Florida: Red Tide Monitoring along the Florida Gulf Coast; Ecology of Harmful Algal Blooms; Health Effects; Red tide Control and Mitigation; Public Education of Outreach.
