Project Description:
Mote Marine Laboratory's Center for Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Research has been engaged in research on the endangered Florida manatee for more than 10 years. For the last several years, much of this research has taken the form of collaborative efforts with the Florida Fish and Wild Life Conservation Commission's Marine Research Institute. It is crucial for continued examination and investigation of Metabolic Processes and Thermal Biology; Genetic and Reproductive Biology; Behavior Patterns in Response to boats; calibration studies for improved abundance estimation; Manatee immunology; rescue/Verification; Habitat selection Criteria, Navigation and Orientation; Use of Matlacha Isles Habitat.
