Project Description:

This project seeks to add eight beds to an existing SRT unit at Lakeside Alternatives. With additional beds, a more traditional model of short-term residential treatment consisting of average length of stays of 90 days rather than 10 days can be utilized. This longer stay can provide continued stabilization and transition to the community beyond crisis stabilization. This project will serve approzimately 35 people per year.

The services provided are individual, group and chemo therapeutic intervention in a secure 30 bed residential setting as an altrnative to acute care public and state hospitalization. The unit operates 24 hours per day, seven days a week and provides a therapeutic environment designed to enhance individual coping skills, communication, problem solving, self-awareness, mental illness management, health, hygiene and medication management.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

It will produce measurable coutcomes consistent with the Department of Children & Families for mental health services, and deonstrate effectiveness in lowering state hospital utilization (90% of clients admitted to an SRT will not be admitted to a state hospital) and an increase in the number of days in the community, reduction in inappropriate and expensive incarceration: a lower utilization of more expensive deep-end medical services and uncompensated care in acute care facilities (an SRT is $300 less a day than an acute care hospital facility).
