Project Description:

This project supports the removal of rough fish, primarily gizzard shad, from basin lakes, including Lake Apopka.  The removal of gizzard shat is a cost effective method of removing phosphorus.  Furthermore, removal of rough fish helps reduce algae and helps establish desirable vegetation.  This technique can be applied to other highly eutrophic lakes in the Harris Chain of Lakes with similar results.  Concurrent zooplnakton measurements should be done to document the recuced zooplankton grazing.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

Reduced phosphorus levels; increased zooplankton populations; reduced algal levels; increased acres of desirable vegetation.
