Project Description:

FFT is a structured model of family therapy that provides 16 hours of individual family therapy to out of control teens and their families. FFT has met the criteria of OJJDP to be validated as a Blueprint program. To date, thirteen studies in referenced journals demonstrate dramatic and significant positive treatment effects, including follow up periods of up to five years.  FFT has been proven to be effective in working with a wide range of problem youth and their families in various contacts and treatment systems.  FFT has been implemented with standardized results at the prevention level for youth with early behavioral indicators of delinquency to youth who present serious chronic crimes. FFT has been applied with a wide range of population demographics, wih non-white youth sometimes representing less than 10% of the sample and as much as 50%-60% of the sample.

FFT was assessed as the most appropriate program form the evidenced-based programs for impacting family managment for youth 13-17 based on: the validation of effectiveness within the family domain specifically targeting theree of the four prioirty risk factors identified for Volusia County, and; the program's proven ability to impact a wide range of problem youth and their families in the community which allows the inclusion of those youth referred for depression as well as aggressive/impulsive behaviors.

Clinical trials in more than 22 sites have demonstrated that FFT is capable of: preventing further incidence of the presenting problem; effectively treating adolescents with Conduct Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Disruptive Behavor Disorder, alcohol and other drug abuse disorders, and who are delinquent and/or violent; interrupting the matriculation of these adolescents into more restrictive, higher cost services; reducing the access and penetration of other social services by these adolescents; and effectively transferring treatment effects across treatment systems.

FFT is a structured model of family therapy that provides approximately 16 hours of indiviudal family therapy to out of control teens and their families.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

80% of youth successfully completing FFT will show a 50% reduction in aggressive bahaviors in school- 12 months post program for those youth with previous records of aggression in school.

80% of youth successfully completing FFT will not have entered the DJJ system 12 months post program.
