Project Description:
Collaborative effort by the City of Fort Pierce, St. Lucie County, St. Lucie County School Board, Fort Pierce Housing Authority, Boys & Girls Club, and Indian River Community College to construct a 38,000 square foot facility to serve St. Lucie County and surrounding areas. 50% of inner city Fort Pierce residents are defined as within 150% of poverty. 75% of students receive free lunch. In area of proposed site, 1 our of 7 has not completed 8th grade and 1 out of 4 do not have a high school diploma. Per capita income for inner city of Fort Pierce is 32% below state average.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Serves as model for statewide usage to better serve our youth in our communities by increased literacy, increased employment, and decreased in juvenile delinquency.
