Monroe County is near completion of a Stormwater Management Master Plan which will seek to minimize stormwater pollutant loading to nearshore waters for improved water quality. The implementation could include construction of various stormwater management systems, development of a new stormwater ordinance, retrofitting of existing systems, etc., as determined under the Master Plan. |

Water quality impacts associated with stormwater and outdated septic systems threaten to permanently damage nearshore and offshore marine communities. Pursuant to the FKNMS Water Quality Protection Program Document stormwater sources contribute about 21% of total wastewater/stormwater nitrogen and 44% of total wastewater/stormwater phosphorus landings Sanctury waters. |
