Project Description:
Baker Community Hospital is requesting support from the State of Florida to help reduce the debt service on an $11,000,000 new hospital and nursing home. The new hospital replaced a terriby inadequate and out-of-date facility that was not adequately serving the residents of the 585 square mile area in Baker County. Baker Community Hospital is a statutory designated rural hospital and provides health care to the rural, and often times low-income, citizens who reside in and around Baker County. One in four people who come to Baker Community Hospital's Emergency Room are unable to pay for their medical care. The Hospital absorbs the costs for medically indigent at four times the national average. The support requested will allow Baker Community Hospital to continue to provide the rural community in and around Baker County with an emergency room, as well as other healthcare services required of a hospital.
