Project Description:
Evaluations by the Monroe County Sanitary Wastewater Management Plan indicated that the most effective approach to solving the wastewater improvement needs in this area is through the construction of a vaccuum sewer collection system, with an advanced wastewater treatment plant, whose effluent is disposed of in a shallow injection well.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Eliminate the use of an approximately 340 cesspits and hundreds of additional septic tanks which fail to remove nutrients. These nutrients contribute to the degradation of nearshore, confined and coastal waters of the Florida Keys. Construction of this wastewater treatment facility will significantly improve water quality in an area designsted by the State of Florida as "Outstanding Florida Waters."
