Project Description:

Earth Rangers is a non-profit organization providing school programs targeting at-risk youths of all ages.  The mission of the organization is to provide young people with life-long skills in leadership, values, and knowledge of the environment through appealing activities that are alternatives to drugs, gangs, and crime, while they build team, family and community spirit.  This program is a prevention program that has demonstrated its ability ti decrease truancy, increase students basic academic skills, increase parental involvement with student activities, provide students with motivation to complete their education and participate in community activities.  The program also provides job training and gives disadvantaged students the opportunity to participate in environmental education and personal development programs.  Leadership development is another important component of the program. High school students share their experience and knowledge with junior high and elementary school students through the mentoring program.  This program is currently under the direction of Mr. Allan Rose, a recent recipient of Education Commissioner Charlie Crist, "2001 Business Recognition Award."
