Project Description:

The Brandon Main Street Plan was completed in April 2000 as one of Hillsborough County's first community based planning projects. The project engaged the community in the creation of a mixed use Master Plan that recognizes the effect that future construction of the Brandon Parkway will have on new development in the community and on the surrounding transportation network.  This request would fund the design right-of- way acquisition and construction of Phase I Main Street (Pauls Drive). The purpose of focusing on early funding of the public sector component is to improve the efficiency of the Pauls Drive corridor, support the concurrent creation of traditional neighborhood development design guidelines and provide a catalyst for redevelopment in the center of Brandon.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

The effectiveness of the Phase I Main Street to meet the vision of the Brandon Main Street Plan can be  measured by its potential to be a catalyst for future development and private investment in the project area. Redevelopment of under utilized properties and utilization of connected land use patterns can act as indicators and be tracked through land use and zoning requests in the project area. The effect that construction of the Main Street will have on the surrounding transportation network can be measured using pre and post construction transportation analysis. An immeasurable outcome will be the creation of the civic social and symbolic town center identity that can be acheived through the Main Street environment.
