Project Description:

Funds through this contract provide youth development services for teenage youth, extending daily programs to Friday and Saturday evenings.  Programs include Power Hour to assist youth in passing grades and FCAT testing and SMART Moves, nationally recognized substance abuse prevention program.  Our programs are located directly in areas of high juvenile justice reports, specifically in public housing in Ft. Pierce and in the area of most juvenile crime in Port St. Lucie.  This year, these have been 17 gang related murders within a two mile radius of our Ft. Pierce teen center and the Club provides a safe alternative to the attractions of gangs in the area.  Other programs to be continued with this funding will be smoking cessation programs, cultural diversity programs, job preparation and career programs and recreation programs to keep the interest of teens in daily participation.  Currently the program serves 120 teens and projections are that membership will reach 200 by year's end.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

80% of all youth participating will have no truancy and will not have been suspended or expelled within the last 6 months; 75% of 8th & 10th grade students will score a minimal passing grade or knowledge of drug abuse prevention and refusal skills as measured by pre and post testing.
