Project Description:
The Indian Street Bridge is a much needed roadway and bridge link between the Indian Street/Kanner Highway and 34th St/Mapp Road intersections located in Palm City. This bridge provides an east-west corridor that offers access to the major north-south corridors of Federal Hwy., Kanner Hwy., Florida Turnpike and I-95. The existing roadways are split by the St. Lucie River. A bridge crossing connecting the two existing corridors would yield 1 corridor that would not only provide a link to the major existing corridors in the County, but also provide direct access to the most easterly and westerly location of any corridor alternates.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
This bridge will serve as an emergency evacuation route, which will assist in distribution of goods and services such as farms to markets, and promotes economic development. This is a major transportation corridor in Martin County, and will relieve congestion in the existing Palm City Bridge and US 1 corridors.
