Project Description:

B.U.I.L.D. is a program designed to assist the female population we serve.  The ex-offender population falls into that hard-to-hire status of employment.  As a result of their prior criminal record they find themselves with mediocre positions, day labor, and end up on the streets working their former professions (drug, sex workers).  Another problem is that many are HIV positive, making it even mmore difficult for job placement.  It has been very difficult in finding the ex-offender suitable employment.  This program offers a multiplex package of services that can help the ex-offender to launch into not just a job, but a career beyond their expectations, or to reactivate the one they had prior to incarceration.  Fear and embarrasment regarding their background hinders their progress.  Having a support system even before release will help to prepare them to take control of their emotions and achieve their goals.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:

(1) 70% of women participating will obtain employment within 6 months of entering the program.

(2) 60% of these women will maintain employment for at least 6 months.

(3) 50% of the participants will remain arrest-free for 12 months following entry into the program.
