Job Title

Administrative Support (Commerce Committee)

General Summary

This position, located in Tallahassee, performs administrative tasks and assignments in support of the Commerce Committee and subcommittees.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Performs general office management duties. 
  • Interacts with members of the Florida House of Representatives, representatives of state and local government, and the public.
  • Assists in planning full committee and/or subcommittee meetings and workshops. 
  • Attends full committee and subcommittee meetings to provide administrative support including meeting setup, taking roll call and votes, and managing public speaker requests.
  • Responsible for preparing notices, detailed agenda, and other meeting materials, as well as recording and reporting out meetings. 
  • Acts as official custodian of bills referred to committee and maintains other documents and records. 
  • Edits and proofs emails, notices, bill analyses, and other documents; reviews draft documents for procedural, grammatical, and typographical accuracy. 
  • Performs special assignments, research, and report preparation; recommends solutions or courses of action. 
  • Assists supervisor in handling daily administrative duties and acts in matters where authority has been delegated; maintains office calendar and notifies staff members of upcoming deadlines.
  • Receives and refers telephone calls and correspondence; personally answers routine questions related to office procedures; uses initiative in carrying out duties by referring only unfamiliar situations to others; answers inquiries to relieve supervisor from routine tasks. 
  • Processes a variety of correspondence, investigates subject matter, and prepares replies. 
  • Trains and supervises clerical and/or other administrative personnel to ensure accurate and smooth work flow of the unit. 
  • Uses established office procedures; defines and investigates problems; and formulates methods of resolution.
  • Assists in formulating and recommending programs and policies of the unit; interprets and administers policies. 
  • Represents supervisor at meetings and conferences. 
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
 
Administrative experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Commensurate with experience.
