Job Title

Legislative Research Assistant

General Summary

This individual performs administrative tasks and supports the Office of the Majority Leader with research and writing to develop and produce resources, communications, and problem-solving assistance.

Examples of Work Performed

Administration

•Answers and resolves internal and external telephone inquiries.
•Greets and directs visitors in a friendly, professional manner.
•Performs daily administrative and general office management duties (maintains office email account inbox, maintains office supplies, manages office mail and calendar, etc.)
•Processes a variety of correspondence, investigates subject matter, and prepares replies.
•Assists in planning events by securing event space, equipment, and catering.              

Research

•Monitors the progress of legislation through committees of reference and on the floor.
•Assists Member Services Liaisons in creating impactful messages, resources, and training related to legislation to help legislators and their staff communicate with their districts.
•Assists Political Affairs Liaisons in developing a deep understanding of policy and politics in Florida to anticipate the impact of proposed legislation throughout the legislative process.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
•Knowledge of administrative principles and practices.
•Knowledge of Florida state government.
•Ability to interact professionally and courteously with members of the public and elected officials.
•Ability to work cooperatively as a team member and to contribute to the efficient internal functioning of the office staff.
•Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality.
•Ability to communicate effectively.
•Ability to pay attention to detail and review work for accuracy and quality of content.
•Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

•A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

•Administrative experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.

Preferred Qualifications

•Proficiency with Canva; Mailchimp; Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign, and/or Photoshop; etc.

Salary

Commensurate with experience.
