Job Title

Accountant

General Summary

This is a responsible professional position performing a variety of accounting duties and responsibilities with particular focus on auditing and processing payments associated with contracts.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Processes travel reimbursement payments, as well as other expenditures.
  • Answers inquiries and provides assistance to employees on travel related matters.
  • Performs audits and processes payments for travel vouchers, p-card payments and other documents.
  • Processes journal transfers.
  • Ensures the smooth and timely processing of travel vouchers, p-card charges, invoices, and purchase orders submitted for payment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of accounting records.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret accounting data.
  • Ability to understand and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to an accounting program.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Ability to use tact and exercise good judgement when interacting with Legislators and staff, other agencies, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in accounting.

Professional or nonprofessional accounting or auditing experience can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required bachelor’s degree; or any combination of this experience and up to 60 semester or 90 quarter hours of college education including two courses in accounting can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
