General Summary

This is independent work managing front desk operation of the Florida Historic Capitol Museum, providing historical information and customer service to visitors, working with volunteers, and ensuring Museum is secured. Training will be provided. This position reports to the Visitor Services & Event Manager.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Staff Visitor Services Desk and greet visitors to the Florida Historic Capitol Museum
  • Open and close museum
  • Work special event rentals as needed
  • Work with museum volunteers
  • Provide group introductions and programming as needed
  • Learn program scripts and provide Museum tours
  • Answer general questions about Tallahassee and Florida History
  • Provide staff support for special events including week-day evening events as available
  • Provides support for Visitor Services staff
  • Performs other related duties as required 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of Florida history or willingness and ability to learn.
Knowledge of educational practices or willingness and ability to learn.
Ability to use the internet for basic research.
Ability to work cooperatively as a team member.
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the demands of the public.
Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques.
Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with board members, donors, volunteers, schools and teachers, supervisor, co-workers, other agencies, and the public.

Salary

$12.72 per hour. Employee will be required to work between 12 and 24 hours per week, depending upon the staffing needs.   Some weekend hours will be required.
