  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to credit cards; limiting

  3         credit card number information on certain

  4         receipts; providing application; providing for

  5         operation; providing an effective date.

  7  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

  8

  9         Section 1.  (1)  Except as provided in this section, no

10  person, firm, partnership, association, corporation, or

11  limited liability company that accepts credit cards for the

12  transaction of business shall print more than the last five

13  digits of the credit card account number or the expiration

14  date upon any receipt provided to the cardholder.

15         (2)  This section shall apply only to receipts that are

16  electronically printed and shall not apply to transactions in

17  which the sole means of recording the person's credit card

18  number is by handwriting or by an imprint or copy of the

19  credit card.

20         (3)  This section shall become operative on January 1,

21  2003, with respect to any cash register or other machine or

22  device that electronically prints receipts for credit card

23  transactions that is in use before January 1, 2002.

24         (4)  This section shall become operative on January 1,

25  2002, with respect to any cash register or other machine or

26  device that electronically prints receipts for credit card

27  transactions that is first put into use on or after January 1,

28  2002.

29         Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a

30  law.
