MCKAY AND FEENEY CALL SPECIAL SESSION"The step we take today with reluctance is a safeguard to preserve Florida's participation in the presidential election," said McKay. "If, in fact, the pending court cases are unresolved, we must ensure that Florida's electors are counted by Congress. It is our responsibility under the U.S. Constitution to make sure that all voters, regardless of their party affiliation, are represented." "I join President McKay in exercising our solemn duty in preparing to act to preserve the Florida election and provide conclusivity to our electoral slate, in accordance with Article II of the U.S. Constitution and Title III of the U.S. Code," said Feeney. According to McKay and Feeney, if the Florida Legislature doesn't prepare for the possibility that the results may be in doubt on December 12, all Floridians could be denied a voice in the election. They are commending the schedule on the 8th to allow sufficient time to act, if necessary. "Our action, to a large degree, is based upon whether finality is reached in all lawsuits by the 12th," said McKay. The proclamation outlines the scope of the session, including providing for the manner in which electors are appointed and other matters necessary to fulfill the Legislature's duty under the U.S. Constitution and other appropriate federal laws.
