Project Description: |
Detecting cancer and other diseases at an early stage is the key to improve survival, decrease mortality rates, and decrease local and state health related costs of these illnesses caught in advanced and final stages. This proposed program is instrumental in increasing cancer awareness in the Haitian communities of the State of Florida. It provides linkage to cancer screening and has impacted the late-stage cancer complication/diagnosis. The HAAAc's 2003-2004 Comprehensive Education, Outreach and Screening Cancer Program will provide outreach, education and cancer screening tests. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
400 non-insured, undeserved Haitian women will be educated on breast and cervical cancer; 150 non-insured, underserved Haitian women will be screened for breast and cervical cancer; 400 non-insured, underserved Haitian men will be educated on prostate cancer; 150 non-insured, underserved Haitian men will be screened for prostate cancer; 400 non-insured , underserved Haitian men and women will be educated on colon cancer; 150 non-insured, underserved Haitian men and women will be educated on colon cancer; Distribution of 50,000 Creole cancer brochures by HAAAC during community outreach activities. |
