Project Description:
Miami Children's Hospital is one of two state approved Pediatric Trauma Centers in Miami-Dade County. Of the over 14,000 children that come through the emergency room, over 500 children were treated for trauma related injuries last year at Miami Children's Hospital. Maintaining a team of pediatric emergency medicine, surgical, and subspecialty physicians and staff to care for and manage these children requires an intense/onging investment in training and equipment. Since unintentional injury is the leading cause of death in children under the age of 14, the maintenance and further development of this service is critical to the well-being of the children in the community.
