| The project is to assist Miami-Dade County in its purchase of 21.46 acres known as Boystown (A.K.A. Camp Matecumbe). The site is located at SW 137th Avenue and S.W. 120th Street in the densely populated West Kendall area of the County. Acquisition of the property will provide recreational open space for all Miami-Dade County residents and will preserve the cultural and historical significance of the site as it relates to Operation Pedro Pan, its contribution to Miami-Dade County and South Florida's rich cultural diversity. Miami-Dade County Park and Recreation Department will operate the facility as a recreational camp for the children of South Florida with various programming environmental education programs and will assist in the preservation of the adjacent 77-acre Boystown Pine Land- a property leased through the State's Conservation and Recreation Lands Program (CARL). | |||||||||
