This project will replace failing septic systems with central sewage collection facilities, thereby reducing pollutants transported to the Apalachicola River: an Outstanding Florida Water and Telogia Creek. It will also reduce the discharge of such pollutants as BOD, TSS, nitrogen, and phosphorus to surface waters. These pollutants promote the growth of bacteria and algae which may cause depressed oxygen levels and fish kills in surface waters. |
