Statewide Interest: |
This program involves providing central sewer service to the Phillippi Creek service area. Phillippi Creek flows into Sarasota Bay which has been designated as a National Estuary. The National Estuary Program was established in 1987 by amendments to the Clean Water Act to identify, restore, and protect nationally significant estuaries of the United States. Providing central sewer service to the Phillippi Creek service area will have a positive impact on the existing environment as a result of eliminating approximately 14,000 existing septic systems which are currently operating in the urban service area of Sarasota County. The County is presently operating under a Florida Department of Environmental Protection Order to clean up Phillippi Creek. |
