Project Description: |
This project will provide specialized vocational training for youth transitioning from foster care placement to independent living. The proposed training module will be offered as a component of the Independent Living Program sited in Lake County. The training module will provide medical and technical education pertaining to search and rescue and recovery, including coordinating with the local forestry service, fire department, the Nation Guard, the American Red Cross, the local police department's K-9 units, and other search and rescue groups. The program will provide training in the area of life saving, first aid, CPR and rescue and recovery techniques while simultaneously developing a positive direction in job skills and career path options. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
Youth graduating from the Independent Living Program will have a high school diploma or GED, be placed in gainful employment and secure independent housing. Youth will not receive public assistance or be involved in the criminal justice system for one year after graduation. |
