| Curriculum development, training for teachers on teaching American History. Conducting educational experiences including tours, exhibits, conferences and workshops. Produce educational materials that can be used in the classroom to enhance the learning environment. Since establishment in 1996, Riley House Center/Museum, in addition to serving as a repository for local and statewide African American historical information and artifacts, has responded to a growing interest to preserve the cultural heritage of Florida's African American population. It serves as an informal statewide clearinghouse, providing information and assistance to individuals and advocates from across the state relation to African American heritage preservation. With an appropriation, the Center/Museum will be able to enhance and broaden its support to citizens statewide. This project, creating the African American Preservation Network, will address the need to plan, develop, and implement programs that educate and train citizens statewide to empower themselves and assist in preserving legacies and revitalizing the livability of traditional African American communities. Through cultivation of partnerships with educational institutions, government entities, private businesses and corporations, historic preservation projects and programs that help to stabilize the built enviroment, create contextual economic development, and foster an appreciation of African American contributions to the historical and cultural foundations of Florida will be encouraged and facilitated. The method to be used will encompass technical assistance, education, training and motivating of Florida's African American citizens and supporters to assist local communities, through a statewide historic preservation movement. The belief is that Florida's communities, economy, environment, and people will be enhanced through preservation of these legacies and historical resources. | |||||||||
