Community Budget Issue Requests - Tracking Id #188
City of LaBelle Water Plant Improvement

Requester: Sharon Craichy, Mayor Organization: City of LaBelle

Project Title: City of LaBelle Water Plant Improvement Date Submitted 1/10/2003 10:33:25 AM

Sponsors: Spratt

Statewide Interest:
Since the maximum contamination level for TTHM has been lowered by the EPA and the FDEP the city was forced to change our treatment process to meet the new standards. Because of this change the color is very dark, sometimes yellow. Even though it meets the standards except for color the residents do not have the comfort factor that they would with clear water. As a result, residents are buying bottled water. It is a health issue with some of our residents. The state awarded a grant to the city that allows us to inject floride into the drinking water. Since we have many LMI abd Farm Workers it is important that these families drink the water which will reduce the necessity of dental work to the Health Department.
