Project Description: |
In 1999, Santa Rosa County donated 130 acres of land to the State on the eastern portion of Navarre Beach valued at $40 million (through the 99 year lease agreement) with the understanding that the State would develop it as a state park through the use of legislatively appropriated funds. The Navarre Beach State Recreation Area Unit Management Plan outliness the individual projects that were to be completed within the park, and it was created through a planning process that involved extensive local public participation. At this point,$6.5 million has been appropriated and obligated in developing the park. However, once the park was designed and bid for construction, several significant facilities were omitted including the extension of the fishing pier, completion of the Underwater Marine Sanctuary, the western day use area, and leisure piers. Engineering estimates of these facilities are approximately $4.3 million. While each of these are significant, Santa Rosa County would like to place emphasis on completion of the Underwater Marine Sanctuary and Extension fo the fishing Pier as these facilities have larger existing user groups. |
