Project Description:
The Nutrition & Family Services Project is a community-based program that targets families and individuals to alliviate hunger, stabilize and build strong families. Its hot meals service, food and clothing distribution meets the needs of approximately 200 families and individuals within the Opa-Locka and North Communities. Participants are able to participate in community workshops and Tuesday Family Nights at which time discussions and lectures are provided on issues impacting on family life. Counselors assist clients to ensure that their health-care needs are being met while also providing individual and group counseling, and information and referral services. Supportive services are provided to complement program needs. Monthly seminars/workshops are conducted and include Domestic Violence, Appropriate Touching, HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention, Literacy Conflict Resolution, Budgeting and Money Management, and Information and Referral to other community services and/or programs and services.
