Project Description: |
A critical component of the restoration of the Everglades is the elimination of pollution sources. This initiative promotes the implementation of activities which eliminate or reduce pollutants being discharged from urban and agricultural areas into the Everglades Protection Area. Specifically, this proposal includes three principal water quality improvement features-physical enhancements to six stormwater treatment areas;implementation of pollution source controls in urban basins in the Lower East Coast that are not currently served by STA; Investigations of measures to improve water quality entering the Everglades and means to accelerate the recovery of areas already impacted. |

It is estimated that approximately 40,000 kilograms per year of phosphorus through biological uptake within the STAs. In addition, the project will evaulate ways to accelerate the recovery of the areas that are already impacted. |
