Statewide Interest:
The capital outlay for the construction of the USA Softball National Training Center-East Coast is an initiative that is local and regional as well as national and international in scope for the training of softball teams from all over the world. The construction of the Training Center addresses a statewide interest in the sport of softball, while continuing to provide the opportunity for our state's youth to achieve lifetime goals. A measurable result from the development of the Training Center would include the financial impact of sports training, exhibition games and other softball programs creating additional tourism for the State of Florida. The Florida Sports Foundation supports the development of the USA Softball National Training Center-East Coast in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

Project Description:
The construction of the USA Softball National Training Center-East Coast is a project that will enable Olympic, international, collegiate, amateur and youth softball teams to train and compete year round. The Training Center will be constructed at the Merrill Park Softball Complex in Altamonte Springs with the planned development of a 1,000-seat stadium, four covered batting/pitching lane cages, two locker rooms, weight/cardio room, medical room, offices, meeting rooms, media facilities and a press/announcer box at the current three field softball complex. USA Softball has awarded the City of Altamonte Springs/Altamonte Sports with the official title of the USA Softball National Training Center-East Coast as well as the Olympic rings moniker. The Training Center will attract softball teams to compete in tournaments and aspiring softball players to USA Olympic Team Try-Outs throughout the year. A commitment has been made by USA Softball for the USA Women's Olympic Team to train in Altamonte Springs for the 2004 Olympics in Greece. This commitment makes Florida the last stop before departing for Athens, Greece.
