Project Title: Crisis Stabalization Unit (Ruth Cooper Center) Date Submitted 1/10/2003 2:15:25 PM

Sponsors: Kottkamp

Statewide Interest:
With the closure of the Charter Glade Hospital in June 2000 and G. Pierce Wood in April 2002, the need for inpatient continues to grow. The only inpatient resources for adults in Lee County is Ruth Cooper Center's 29 bed Crisis Stabilization Unit. Admissions have increased from 70/month in June 2000 tp 224/month in November 2002. The Unit is consistently at or close to capacity, serving individuals regardless of ability to pay. 80% of the people admitted have no insurance, yet the State pays for only 21 of the available 29 beds. It is essential that reimbursement be obtained for addidtional beds to keep the Unit financially viable. The legislature funded three additional beds in FY '00 this was not renewed in FY '01. It is essential that the State of Florida support adult crisis services.
