Statewide Interest:
The 2001-2002 Florida Legislature recognized that the closure of G. Pierce Wood State Hospital would displace children currently served in adult beds in the Manatee Glens Crisis Stabilization Unit. The Legislature funded 2.43 children's Baker Act beds, plus 24-hour crisis emergency support for children and adolescents at Manatee Glens Crisis Unit. This request is to continue this funding.

Project Description:
In 2000 and 2001, the Florida Legislature assured the continuation of children's Baker Act services in Manatee County through this project. This request continues these services with recurring general revenue to more than 300 children and adolescents a year in Manatee and surrounding counties who are suicidal and in need of in-patient psychiatric care.

Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
Safeguard the lives of suicidal children and adolescents. Children will attend 86 percent of all school days. Children will be in their communities 341 days of the year.
