Project Description: |
Brain tumors are the #1 cause of childhood cancer deaths in our country today. The incidence of brain tumors is on the rise, especially in Florida. Forty percent of children diagnosed with a brain tumor do not survive after five years beyond diagnosis. Miami Children's Hospital is committed to providing the most effective and least invasive surgical procedures possible to children in order to increase their survival rates and improve their quality of life. Florida has an opportunity to maximize on the existing collaboration between leading physicians and scientists in the nation who have come together to facilitate the establishment of an internationally recognized, comprehensive pediatric brain tumor center. At the core of the Pediatric Brain institute would be a powerful new tool for treating brain cancer: the Intraoperative MRI. The institute offers care for a broad array of neurological disorders afflicting children and their families. |
