Project Description:
Collaborative effort by the City of Ft. Pierce, St. Lucie County, St. Lucie School Board, Ft. Pierce Housing Authority, Bots & Girls Club & Indian River Community College to construct a 38,000 sq ft facility to serve St. Lucie County & surrounding areas. 50% of inner city Ft. Pierce residents are defined as within 150% of poverty. 75% of students receive free lunch. In area of proposed site, 1 out 0f 7 has not completed 8th grade, and i out 4 do not have a high school diploma. Per capita income for inner city Ft. Pierce is 32% below state average. In-kind contributions plus individual financial donations & challenge pledges in excess of $500,000. have been committed for this project. A major corporate donation and /or Statae funding is needed to spur additional fund raisnig and donations. Several private coporations have indicated a willingness to make donations subject to state funding.
