Project Description: |
The Mothers and Infants program truly exemplifies the mission of First Step to prevent and treat alcohol/drug addiction and associated disorders, to promote fully functioning, productive individuals whose lives are positive. It addresses the concerns of family preservation and welfare reform. |

Measurable Outcome Anticipated: |
Over 130 pregnant substance abusing women with an average stay of eight months, has produced 100 drug-free babies saving thousand of dollars in hospitalization and treatment costs. This is a four level treatment with the final a transition reentry to the community making them productive and responsible mothers and citizens. The program has grown from 4 beds in 1995 to 11 beds currently, with the number of clients increasing from several surrounding counties. First Step has been treating addictions for 35 years, community based, licensed and CARF accredited. At present 100% of babies are born drug free and 85 % of the clients are employed at discharge. |
