Project Description: |
This project would involve the care of 16-20 foster care children each month. This program would provide emergency shelter for 30 days and would collaborate with other agencies in the area, especially churches. It is a 24/7 facility which provides for all medical assessments, dental assessments, comprehensive psychological evaluations and school recommendations when appropriate. Instead of children going directly into a foster home or facility they would come to the assessment center and be evaluated first. The would accomplish the law for children to be medically evaluated with 72 hours and would also allow for appropriate placement of the child according to needs. Each child would be given a case manager to interface with family support workers from DCF or lead agency involved in privitization. This program would be available for children in Clay County as well as other Counties in District 4 when space is permitted. This program would offer counseling, parenting groups, mental health services, substance abuse services and family therapy with the goal of unification of families. Having an Assessment Center would eliminate the use of a less than appropriate holding facility currently being used. (The Davis Street office complex, where children currently are kept until placement, has no showers, kitchen facilities or places to sleep except the floor). There would also be Respite Services for kids already in foster care. There are multiple agencies who are willing to be involved in this project, such as: Council on Aging for mentoring purposes, Spiritual Leaders, Foster Care Alliance, and Clay County Health Department. Clay County Government is willing to put in a match of $350,000 the first year and $250,000.00 each year for 4 years. Training of staff and community awareness is also a major point of this project. |
