Project Description:
This project will provide the Environmental Education Program of the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center an Education Director and sufficient materials and signage.
Services Provided/Benefit to State:
This program will provide transportation of students from schools which cannot afford transportation. The Center will continue to provide rehabilitation to sick and injured wild birds. The great value of the environmental assets within the expansion to the current 5.5 acres of caried habitats on the bay on Key Largo is underutilized by the absence of a person to educate not only the students in the region but also tourists from within and to the state of Florida. This project would alleviate this problem by providing an Education Director.
Measurable Outcome Anticipated:
The essence of the education program that we wish to develop is responsible stewardship of our natural environment and wild birds that populate it in decreasing populationsl. With education we epxect to see a reduction in the hazards to the state's wild birds, i.e., fishing tackle and toxins, and increased regard for the reasons for protecting the environments that are already of concern to the state.
