Project Description:

The proposed project is to develop construction plans for necessary offices and floor plans required for an Emergency Operation Center, final architechural and construction documents to bid out the construction of the EOC as well as establish estimated construction coast for the structure.  The project proposal is to be accomplished by procuring a design professional to gather input on needs and requirements of the community and develop a rendering architechtural design plan, construction documents and estimated construction cost for an EOC.

Services Provided/Benefit to State:

An EOC will serve as a focal point for emergency management coordination and most importantly a continuity of government services the residents.  As the center of government services in times of crisis, the EOC will be able to address specific request by residents, at the same time that it supplies information on emergency preparedness, response and recovery, fulfilling the needs of residents. Also, an appropriate and realistic training facility will allow the Village to improve and enhance its emergency operations and training capabilities in its role as a lead local agency to the Countywide and State Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. The presence of a prominant EOC will result in improved coordination of relief efforts between the Village and its residents, Monroe County, the State of Florida, as well as other relief organizations, such as the American Red Cross, Salvation Army and other similar organizations.  Improved operations and training capabilities will provide all agencies concerned with a high level coordination and execution by the Village. Therefore, this high-level of preparation, coordination and ability will provide Islamorada;s community with a best means of communication for preparation and evacuation, which is a key component that is currently missing.  This project is consistant with the State Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, the Monroe County Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan, and the Local Mitigation Strategy.
